Characteristics Of Oak
A solid, dependable timber. It’s dense, slow-growing, and naturally tough, so it stands up well to rot, bugs, and wear. That tight grain gives it strength and a good bit of character.
A very durable timber. Its strength and longevity make it ideal for both internal and external joinery.
Oak’s incredible lifespan, often 60 to 100+ years with the right care, speaks volumes about its strength and staying power. It’s built to be part of your home for generations.
Oak has a prominent, attractive grain that can range from straight to wavy. It finishes beautifully with oils, waxes, or lacquers.
Types Of Oak Finish
One of the main ways we finish our oak is with traditional oil. It gives the wood a clean, natural look and really brings out the grain, making the oak feel warm and full of character. It’s easy to reapply too, so your joinery stays looking great without too much hassle.
Another go-to finish we use is clear lacquer. It gives the timber a smooth, polished feel while offering solid protection against everyday wear and tear. It’s highly scratch-resistant too, an ideal way to fully finish your joinery and keep it looking sharp.
Soap finish isn’t one we use often, but it’s available on request. It involves using soap flakes to gently treat the timber, giving it a pale, raw wood look that subtly lifts the grain. It’s a minimalist finish with a clean, understated feel, ideal if you’re after something a little different.
